My summer glow

I've finally taken the plunge and experimented with fake tan.

I'm a complete beginner when it comes to tanning, in fact I only ever use Rimmel Sun Shimmer when I'm going out and that's because it washes off.

Out of all the products on the market I opted for Xen-Tan Dark Lotion.

Xen-Tan claims to produce a streak-free tan in 3 hours. I applied mine using vinyl gloves and circular motions. I left it on over night and then rinsed off in the morning.

I prefer this to gradual tanners as I like to see where the product has been applied. This left me looking like a mud man afterwards. I was seriously doubting what the end result would be.

I'll give you a hint:

A slightly bronzed arm.
Note I'm extremely pale, this is as tan as I get.

Parts of my tan are streaky (mainly my feet) but this is nothing that can't be corrected with a bit more practice.

Xen-Tan in the bottle smells like sweets but don't let this fool you. Once the tan starts to develop the familiar fake tan scent starts to surface.

I've used this all over including my face. Because of its moisturizing properties it doesn't cling to any dry areas. I've only used this since Saturday so it may be a bit early to tell if it breaks me out.

Overall I'm happy with my first attempt at home tanning. I'm getting used to seeing myself looking a little bit more healthier compared to my previous ghostly pale skin.

The colour is supposed to last at least 7 days so I'll see how it holds up. I haven't decided if I'll stick with this beauty commitment but I'll give it my best effort.

Please share any tanning tips you have :)

  1. I use Xen Tan and think its fantastic. I use the deep bronze cream which comes out brown and smells of chocolate!! I put some on myself last night. I havent actually tried Xen Tan on the face though as I always use a Clarins one so would like to see what results you get:). I hope yo are pleased.

  2. The colour is very subtle on the face but it does wear away quicker than on the body. If you have oily skin it may break you out because its quite heavy due to it being a lotion. Im doing another application on Saturday so hopefully I can post better pictures x

  3. How on earth do you manage to take pics that show the results on your skin... i couldn't get a decent pic for the life of me!! lol
I am yet to try xen tan, keep meaning to pick it up and give it a go. I have been using sunbrushed, its amazing and so quick and easy ..http://saskiathesalsafairy.blogspot.com/2009/03/self-tanning_15.html

You should give that a go too, would love to know other peoples experience with it x

  4. I can never get good swatch pictures probably because my skin is too pale. Try taking photos in the darkest part of your room, this helps me because my flash is very bright and mixed with bright lighting equals crappy photos for me.

once I use up my xen-tan i'll look into sun brushed xx

  6. @happy1234 It took really well to my neck and chest. Going to do my second application now. Im struggling to match my face to the rest of my body now, all bronzers just make me look red :(
