Current craving

Recently i've found myself lusting after arcrylic nails.

I know these are not the healthiest for your nails and there are lots of horror stories but i'm so jealous of those with well groomed, long talons

I've always wanted WAG style nails with the perfect french manicure. This obsession has been encouraged with the current state of my nails ie bad cuticles, different lengths and certain nails are always peeling.

They are permently hidden underneath layers of dark polish.

So come pay day I hope to book my first appointment to have acrylics fitted leaving me with the nails I yearn for :)

I sort of know before I ask, but what are your feelings on acrylic nails? There must be some people who swear by them and who are keeping nail salons in business.

Check out this video. It certainly made me feel better about acrylics.

  1. DON'T get them...not unless you are happy to keep paying for them every 2-3 weeks...it is a BIG commitment, and yes, they truly do wreck your nails. I'm a nail biter, and have had acrylics on and off for the last couple of years. I'm now resolving never to have them again, my nails are so brittle, weak and totally unfeminie since having them. I removed them myself because I couldn't keep up financially, and I don't like being too fake. I LOVE the way they look, they make me feel feminine, but also, dare I say it, slightly trashy at the same time. I know these days EVERYONE has them, but I really would say don't do it...your nails will be wrecked for a LONG time :( Try fake ones you can stick on yourself, if you buy a good glue they last about 7 days! x x x

  2. Thanks for your opinion. Can you recommend a good glue. I hate the ones that come with the press on nails x

  3. Hehe...sorry it was a bit ranty, I'm just fed up with my nails...they are in shockingly bad condition, nothing is helping them, and what with that and stress I've ended up biting them again :( I can't remember the make...erm, perhaps look in Boots/Superdrug, they sell them separately. I'm thinking Nailene, but that may be totally wrong!!! x x x

  4. I like to do my own french manicures :), its easy once you get the hang of it :).
I used to have them done every 2 weeks and had them for 2 years. It takes about 1 year for your nails to get back to normal :)

  6. Hi Kerry I know exactly how you feel I love the way acrylics look and I always admire them on people. Go for it and sure you can always keep them on for a few months and then deal with the consequenses - at least you will have had gorgeous nails!!!!

  7. They do look nice, but the really will WRECK your nails big time. I guess if you are going to pay for them to be maintained regularly then thats fine, but get them removed every few months and try to grow out the nail bed to prevent your own nails getting totally and utterly ruided forever! Heve you considered Silk nails or overlays instead? They are slightly kinder to the natural nail, and can be used to kind of provide a strong evercoat for your own nails, which you can carry on growing...

  8. Can you get acrylics done without them using the drill?

  9. If you can afford to have them redone all the time and will keep having them redone then they do look ok, but it does really damage your nails, so you'd probably have to have acrylics for like..ever! Trust me i'm trained to do them!I know how they ruin your nails. Also instead of acrylic, try and find somewhere that does fibreglass nails, they shouldnt use a drill that way, just a nail file to file them down! xx

  10. Also have you thought about gel nails? they're not extensions, just a layer over your natural nails to help them strengthen and grow. They do this with a french manicure too!

  11. What do gel nails involve? Any drilling? Can you get gel extensions?

  12. I love how acrylics look (and sound!) if they're not overly long, but they cost a fortune! I've never had professional ones done cos of the cost so I rely on stcik on ones for special occasions. Because they ruin nails and my nails are naturally long, I've started just painting them. So I ALWAYS have nail varnish on now, whereas before I never did. A diff colour every week, I love it! It doesn't ruin them but still looks pretty! x
